The meeting is a nexus for leading protein researchers from around the world and serves as a high-profile, international platform for the presentation of trans-disciplinary, forefront discoveries in protein science.

The Organizers - With diverse expertise and a breadth of experience that spans the full spectrum of disciplines, methodologies, technologies, and fields involved in the study of protein structure, function, and design, the all-volunteer Program Planning Committee members are:

James Wells , Ph.D. (Chair)
Professor & Chair, Dept Of Pharmaceutical Chemistry
University Of California, San Francisco

Oscar Millet, Ph.D.
CIC bioGUNE
Center for Cooperative Research in Biosciences
Structural Biology Unit

Miquel Pons, Ph.D.
Professor, Organic Chemistry Department
University of Barcelona Gary Pielak, Ph.D.
Distinguished Term Professor of Chemistry, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill

Sarah Teichmann, Ph.D.
Research Group Leader
EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute & Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute

Mark A Lemmon, Ph.D.
Professor & Chair, Dept of Biochemistry & Biophysics
University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medecine

The Program - With 13 scientific sessions spanning 3.5 days, the meeting consists of 2 concurrent morning and 2 concurrent afternoon research sessions. It will begin with a welcome from Society President James Bowie, Professor and Vice Chair, Dept of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of California, followed by an Opening Plenary Talk from a 2015 Protein Society Award winner. The program will include talks by 2 2015 Protein Science "Best Paper” winners. The program will benefit from speakers representing the Latin American Protein Society and the Lorne Conference on Protein Structure and Function, and includes the following with research sessions:
Engineering & Interpreting The Genome - Proteomics (PTMs, PPIs)
Observing Dynamics In Single Cells - Chemical Biology
Folding Cell Engineering
Protein Allostery & Dynamics - Intrinsically Disordered Proteins
Protein Engineering Systems Biology
Integrative Protein Science Enzyme & Pathway Engineering
The Plenary Awards Session

Students & Young Investigators - A hallmark of The Protein Society Symposium is the special emphasis placed upon fostering the growth and development of young scientists. Through unique and plentiful opportunities for mentorship and interaction with established researchers, career guidance via educational workshops led by experienced educators and industry representatives, as well as numerous prospects for recognition of their work and participation. Two Young Investigator speaking slots are reserved in each session for postdoctoral scientists in the early stages of an independent career, selected from submitted abstracts. A competitive and robust Graduae Student Poster Competition with 10 Best Poster Prizes allows graduate students to gain experience defending their research and provides invaluable opportunities to network. The Education Committee presents an Undergraduate Research Session where winning students can learn valuable skills by giving talks to a receptive and supportive audience. Workshops led by experts and organized by the Mentoring Committee focus upon building core scientific competencies such as effective speaking and scientific writing as well as offering real-world insights that support informed professional advancement. A highlight for all participants are the Networking Dinners, where students and postdocs can share an informal, low-cost meal with invited speakers or Society leaders in a casual, unmoderated setting. Graduate Student and Early-Career registration rates are significantly discounted, and undergraduate member registration is free.
