Digital broadcaster Music Choice’s 2010 survey revealed that over 11,000 survey participants voted the 1980s as the “most favored tune decade of the last 50 years.” The 1980s was the decade that saw a decline in disco’s popularity, and this was promptly replaced by the monumental rise of pop, new wave, and dance music. Digital recording was commonplace in the 1980s, and therefore synthpop and other related electronic genres became famous. With such proliferation, several electronic genres emerged, including techno, electro, house, Eurodance, and freestyle. Meanwhile, rap, hip hop, R&B and other urban genres have retained popularity.
