Nel 1991, circa due anni dopo la nascita del Registro Italiano Donatori di Midollo Osseo (IBMDR) nel padovano tre gruppi di giovani stavano cercando disperatamente di aiutare delle persone a loro care, colpite da una malattia all’epoca incurabile la LEUCEMIA . Avevano saputo che da poco in alcuni centri ospedalieri si stava effettuando il trapianto di midollo osseo da donatore volontario (fino ad allora il trapianto era possibile solo tra fratelli compatibili) e si erano fatti tipizzare tutti nella speranza di essere compatibili con i loro cari, ma la compatibilità è davvero rara ed allora hanno cominciato a parlarne a tutti: negli ambienti di lavoro , tra i parenti , nelle parrocchie cercando di convincere il maggior numero possibile di persone a tipizzarsi, ben consapevoli che più aumentavano le adesioni più aumentava la possibilità di trovare il donatore giusto. A Padova non si effettuavano le tipizzazioni HLA per il Registro, quindi si raccoglievano i nominativi dei potenziali donatori, si suddividevano in piccoli gruppi e li si accompagnava ai centri Immunotrasfusionali che davano la disponibilità (Vicenza, Treviso, Conegliano, Castelfranco, ecc.) oppure grazie alla collaborazione di alcuni medici e dell’AVIS , si raccoglievano i campioni di sangue a Padova e si consegnavano ai centri sopra citati. Nel 1991 questi tre gruppi di persone hanno avuto l’opportunità di incontrarsi, dopo che erano venuti a conoscenza dell’esistenza di ADMO Milano, nata nel 1990, che perseguiva i loro stessi scopi. Dopo quell’incontro i tre gruppi si sono fusi in un'unica Associazione e hanno dato vita nel 1992 ad ADMO Padova, nei locali gentilmente concessi dall’AVIS , dedicando la sezione a Roberto ROSOLEN. Il nostro primo obiettivo è stato far tipizzare tutte le persone interessate nella nostra città. Alla fine del 1992 dopo vari incontri con il primario del Centro Immunotrasfusionale e dopo aver stabilito l’erogazione di una borsa di studio in favore di una biologa, è stato finalmente possibile realizzare questo primo e fondamentale punto di partenza. Da allora sono stati tipizzati a Padova oltre 10.500 donatori e 65 di loro sono giunti alla donazione effettiva.

At the end of 1992 after several meetings with the primary of Immunotransfusion Center and after establishing the provision of a grant in favor of a biologist, it has finally been possible to realize this first and fundamental point of departure.
