Version 0.1 - Initial Release
Version 0.2 - Minor bug fixes
Version 0.3 - Added Jo Suburi Text
AikiTrain is a FREE app that's designed to help you with your Aikido training. The purpose of AikiTrain is very simple - it shouts out random Aikido techniques.
If you're training with a partner, you can physically carry out the technique that AikiTrain chooses. But if you're on your own, you can simply think about the technique that's chosen, and mentally reflect on how you'd carry it out.
AikiTrain includes a 'repeat' function. If you select this option, AikiTrain chooses a new technique every 30 seconds (if you want to use this feature for an extended period of time, you'll need to modify your power settings so that your device doesn't automatically turn off).
AikiTrain is a 'proof of concept' application. But if there's enough interest from the Aikido community, I'd consider updating the app to include additional features.
Possible improvements could include:
- Adding additional techniques
- Adding a dropdown to filter the techniques shown by grade
- Adding a 'Technique of the day' feature. Rather than showing techniques on screen, this feature would display a daily technique in the notification area of your device
- Making the repeat time configurable (instead of 30 seconds)
- Adding features to help teach and pronounce the ken/jo suburis
- Improving the Japanese pronunciations
I hope you enjoy AikiTrain! Please feel free to leave any comments or feedback in the 'User Reviews' section.
Note - in order for AikiTrain to speak out the techniques, you'll need to install the 'SpeechSynthesis Data Installer (4.21MB)'. If you don't have this installed, AikiTrain will prompt you to download it first from Google Play.
