Millions of people all over the world are engaged in aikido. And everyone finds something of their own in aikido. Some of them are engaged because of health and aikido is a good way to keep fit. Others are imbued with the philosophy of aikido, and the third likes ukemi. But first of all aikido is a martial art. It is a complex of techniques for self-defense.
The main difference from other martial arts, such as judo, jujitsu, kung fu, karate is that aikido emerged as a result of combining martial arts, religious beliefs and philosophy.
The founder of Aikido — Ōsensei (大先生/翁先生 - "Great Teacher") — Morihei Ueshiba who created the philosophy of aikido on the principles of harmony. Aggression of the enemy returns back, with no purpose to harm the attacker. At present, there are several main directions, but the original school of aikido is the Aikido Aikikai school. For the development of this school, Morihei Ueshiba created the Aikikai Foundation. The post of the head of the Federation Aikido Aikikai (the organization is in Hombu Dojo) is inherited from father to son.
The system of ranks in aikido, like in other Japanese martial arts, consists of pupils (kyu) and workshops (dan) degrees. Student degrees initially 6 (from 6 to 1 kyu), but in children's groups can be up to 10 student degrees (from 10 to 1 kyu).
The basic principles — distance, withdrawal from the attack line, the output of the attacker from balance. Self-improvement and self-development is achieved by controlling your body: by breathing, bearing, center of gravity, controlling your thoughts while performing aikido techniques. Despite the profound philosophical foundations of Aikido for children it is interesting for somersaults and insurance (is a method of protecting the body when thrown or dropped or ukemi), from which begin the training of aikido.
To work out additional movements, feelings of distance, withdrawal from the line of attack, work of hands, work with weapons is used. To do this, use
• Bokken - wooden sword
• Jo - a wooden pole (staff)
• Tanto - wooden knife
Aikido is gaining popularity in the world, international festivals are held, at which masters demonstrate receptions, conduct aikido training. The most popular film actor who demonstrates aikido techniques in films is Steven Seagal.
