Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia (SKM) adalah satu entiti yang telah diperbadankan pada 1 Januari 2008. SKM sebelumnya dikenali sebagai Jabatan Pembangunan Koperasi Malaysia (JPK).
Di awal penubuhannya pada bulan Julai 1922, jabatan yang dikenali sebagai The Office of The Director of Co-operation ini berfungsi untuk menubuh, mendaftar dan membangunkan Syarikat Bekerjasama-sama di bawah Enakmen Syarikat Bekerjasama-sama ( The Co-operative Societies Enactment 1922 [FMS Cap. 97 of 1935]) dan ditugaskan untuk memandu dan memajukan pergerakan koperasi.
Pejabat Pesuruhjaya Kemajuan Syarikat Bekerjasama-sama, Ibu Pejabat Jabatan Pembangunan Koperasi ketika itu bertempat di Taiping, Perak Darul Ridzuan. Ianya kemudian dipindahkan ke Kuala Lumpur dalam tahun 1924.
Nama Jabatan Kemajuan Kerjasama telah diubah kepada Jabatan Pembangunan Koperasi (JPK) dalam akhir tahun tujuh puluhan. Enakmen Tahun 1922 itu telah dimansuh dan digantikan dengan Akta Koperasi 1948 (Disemak 1983).
Akta Koperasi 1993 (Act 502) kemudiannya telah digubal bagi menyatukan undang-undang koperasi di seluruh Malaysia dan mula berkuatkuasa pada 22 Januari 1994.Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM) is an entity that was incorporated on January 1, 2008. At its inception in July 1922, the department known as the Office of the Director of Co-operation serves to establish, register and develop cooperative under the Enactment cooperative (The Co-operative Societies Enactment 1922 [FMS Cap. 97 of 1935]) and is assigned to drive and develop the cooperative movement.
Office of Development Commissioner cooperative, the Cooperative Development Department headquarters when it was located in Taiping, Perak Darul Ridzuan. It was later moved to Kuala Lumpur in 1924.
Name of Development Cooperation Department was changed to the Department of Cooperative Development (DSD) in the late seventies. Enactment 1922 was repealed and replaced by the Cooperative Societies Act 1948 (Revised 1983).
Operative Societies Act 1993 (Act 502) was enacted to consolidate the cooperative law throughout the country and come into force on January 22, 1994.
