AL-MUWATTA’ demikianlah Imam Malik yang bergelar Imam Dar al-Hijrah menamai kitabnya. Diriwayatkan, berdasarkan penuturan Imam Malik sendiri, bahwa “Suatu ketika aku mendemonstrasikan kitabku di hadapan tujuh puluh para ulama fiqh Madinah dan semuanya menyetujuiku (watha’ani), maka akupun menamainya dengan al-Muwaththa’”.AL-Muwatta 'of Imam Malik says that the title of the Imam of Dar al-Hijrah named his book.
