AL-MUWATTA’ demikianlah Imam Malik yang bergelar Imam Dar al-Hijrah menamai kitabnya. Diriwayatkan, berdasarkan penuturan Imam Malik sendiri, bahwa “Suatu ketika aku mendemonstrasikan kitabku di hadapan tujuh puluh para ulama fiqh Madinah dan semuanya menyetujuiku (watha’ani), maka akupun menamainya dengan al-Muwaththa’”.AL-Muwatta 'of Imam Malik says that the title of the Imam of Dar al-Hijrah named his book. It is related, according to the narrative of Imam Malik himself, that "One day when I demonstrate my book in front of the scholars of fiqh seventy medina and everything menyetujuiku (watha'ani), then I will call it the al-Muwatta '".
