In Alpha Universe, a new magazine from Sony and the publishers of Popular Photography and American Photo, we look at how today’s breakthrough digital photo technology is being used by the world’s top photographers and brightest emerging talent. Our premiere issue features images taken at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil by Sony Artisans of Imagery Brian Smith and David McLain, who captured the world’s most passionate soccer fans day and night with the Sony a7S, a camera that can virtually see in the dark. You’ll also meet renowned surfing photographer Chris Burkard, who travels the world with his Sony a7—a tiny mirrorless camera that, as he puts it, allows him to “be present in the moment” even as he frames dramatic art.
