الحديث القدسي هو الحديث الذي يسنده النبي -صلى الله عليه وسلم- إلى الله عز وجل، والقدسي نسبة للقدس، وهي تحمل معنى التكريم والتعظيم والتنزيه، ولعل من مناسبة وصف هذا النوع من الأحاديث بهذا الوصف، أن الأحاديث القدسية تدور معانيها في الغالب على تقديس الله وتمجيده وتنزيهه عما لا يليق به من النقائص، وقليلاً ما تتعرض للأحكام التكليفية.

ومما تجدر الإشارة إليه أن وصف الحديث بكونه قدسياً لا يعني بالضرورة ثبوته، فقد يكون الحديث صحيحاً وقد يكون ضعيفاً أو موضوعاً، إذ إن موضوع الصحة والضعف المدار فيه على السند وقواعد القبول والرد التي يذكرها المحدثون في هذا الباب، أمَّا هذا الوصف فيتعلق بنسبة الكلام إلى الله تبارك وتعالى.
