The Taipei City Public Bicycle Rental System is a public bike rental system in Taipei City, Republic of China. The Taipei City Government Transportation Bureau commissioned the local bicycle manufacturer giant machinery (Giant) to build and operate it under the BOT model. The service brand name of is the second public bicycle rental system in Taiwan with unmanned self-service, and the first YouBike system in Taiwan. Demonstration operation started as early as March 11, 2009, initially only 11 stations and 500 bicycles were set up around the Xinyi Planning Area. The whole system was finally put into use on November 30, 2012. When it was officially launched, YouBike Smile Bikes had issued more than 130,000 membership cards, and the cumulative number of rentals exceeded 1 million. As of December 1, 2016, YouBike Smile Bike has a total of 274 stops in 12 administrative districts of Taipei City. [4] From April 1, 2015, the first 30 minutes was originally a full subsidy from the Taipei City Government to NT$5; the number of users immediately dropped by 20% in April 2015, and at the end of March 2015, before the subsidy, it was 2065266. The number of leases was equal to the level of early 2014. It reached 2,074,281 at the end of May 2017 and 2,128,110 at the end of August of the same year, exceeding the number of leases before the subsidy was cancelled.
