حِسَاب الجُمَّل او الترتيب الأبجدي طريقة لتسجيل صور الأرقام والتواريخ باستخدام الحروف الأبجدية، إذ يعطى كل حرف رقما معينا يدل عليه. فكانوا من تشكيلة هذه الحروف ومجموعها يصلون إلى ما تعنيه من تاريخ مقصود وبالعكس كانوا يستخدمون الأرقام للوصول إلى النصوص.
وهو حساب استخدم في اللغات السامية؛ حيث تجده مستعملا في بلاد الهند قديما، وعند اليهود؛ فالأبجدية العبرية تتطابق مع الأبجدية العربية حتى حرف التاء (أبجد، هوز، حطي ،كلمن، سعفص، قرشت) أي تتكون من 22 حرفا وتزيد العربية: ثخذ، ضظغ. ووظفه المسلمون في تثبيت التاريخ. الحروف الرقمية تمثل كل الحروف الأبجدية ( 28 حرفاً ) ولكل حرف له مدلوله الرقمي التي تبدأ برقم 1 وتنتهي عند الرقم 1000 وهي كالآتي موضوعة في جدول:Camel account or alphabetical order method of recording images numbers and dates using the letters of the alphabet, as each character is given a certain number shows it.
