المقدمة:
إن الحمد لله تعالى، نحمده ونستعينه ونستغفره ونستهديه، ونعوذ بالله من شرور أنفسنا، وسيئات أعمالنا، من يهده الله تعالى فلا مضل له، ومن يضلل فلا هادي له، وأشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له، وأشهد أن محمدا عبده ورسوله صلى الله عليه وسلم، أما بعد:
فإن سيرة رسولنا الحبيب صلى الله عليه وسلم تعد منبعا ثرا، وموردا لا ينضب، من الحكمة والهدى والنور والعبرة، لمن رام الاستقامة من أمته صلى الله عليه وسلم على الحياة الفاضلة الكريمة في حياته الخاصة أو العامة.
ومن مزايا هذه السيرة العطرة تنوع مادتها، وتنوع مصادرها؛ ويأتي على رأس قائمة هذه المصادر كتاب الله الكريم، ثم ما أثر عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أو عن صحابته الكرام مما دون في كتب الحديث.
ولا ريب أن معظم المصنفات في علم الحديث؛ متقدمها ومتأخرها، تؤلف رافدا مهما من روافد بناء سيرته الكريمة صلى الله عليه وسلم؛ وذلك أن علماءنا رحمهم الله تعالى عندما بدؤوا يجمعون حديث رسول الله صلى الله تعالى عليه وسلم ويؤلفون فيه، رأوا ضرورة جمع كل ما يتصل بحياته صلى الله تعالى عليه وسلم الخاصة والعامة وسائر أحواله، لأنها تؤلف جزءا من هذا الدين. ثم رأوا أنه لابد أيضا من جمع سير الصحابة الذين كانوا معه في غزواته وحروبه والذين شاركوا معه في تبليغ دعوته وبيان مناقبهم، وأفردت لهذه الموضوعات وغيرها مساحات مناسبة في تلك المصنفات، وقد كان لبعض أبناء الصحابة روايات في المغازي والسير، و تابع العلماء عبر القرون السالفة التأليف في هذا العلم ورسخوا قواعده.
