إن الرايس يتساءل:هل عليّ أن أحكي فعلا كل شئ؟ويجيب :إن عدم فعل ذلك يعني عدم الوفاء بالوعد الذي قطعته على نفسي قبل خروجي،وخيانة ضميري ولا سيما خيانة رفاقي في المعتقل ـ السجن الذين ماتوا في ظروف وحشية بعد أن عانوا بشكل فظيع ومضى على انقضاء عقوبتهم زمن طويل..ويضيف السيد محمد الرايس:إنني أريد أن أتخلص من هذا الكابوس الذي يسكنني والصراخات الحادة لرفاقي الذين جُنوا بفعل العزلة والظلمة..
إن وفاء الرايس لمن عاشوا معه محنة تازمامارت كان وراء قراره في الكتابة ولا شك،لكنه أراد أيضا أن يحرر عقله الباطني والواعي أيضا من أنين المحتضرين العاجزين أمام الموت الحتمي ومن صرخات كل الذين طالبوا بالإنصاف قبل وفاتهم،من أجل العدالة أيضا جاء هذا الكتاب،يقول محمد الرايس:ذلك لأنه في معتقل الموت،لم يتم خرق القوانين فقط،بل إن الإنسانية جمعاء أهينت ومرغت في التراب...
