يبدأ فشير روايته بإهداء حميم، مستدعيًا ذكرى "شهداء مذبحة الألتراس" في بورسعيد عام 2012، ثم يشمل كل ضحايا السنوات الخمس الفائتة ومسجونيها، "وإلى ملايين غيرهم في السجن الأكبر بانتظار يوم الخروج.. هذا اليوم آت لا ريب فيه".

ويقسم الكاتب في هذه الرواية -التي نفدت طبعتها الأولى خلال أسبوع واحد، وكان عنونها الأصلي "أمل وعمر في الفراش"- ثوار يناير إلى أنماط يبحث خلالها عن دوافع الثورة لدى الثائر ومصيره بعد هزيمتها.
