কিয়ামতের দিন-ক্ষণ যদিও একমাত্র আল্লাহি ভালো জানেন, এর নিকটবর্তি হওয়ার ব্যাপারে উনি পবিত্র কুরাণে এবং তাঁর প্রিয় রসুলের মাধ্যমে আমাদের কিছু ইঙ্গিত দিয়েছেন।

কেয়ামতের পূর্বে কেয়ামতের নিকটবর্তিতার প্রমাণস্বরূপ যে আলামতগুলো প্রকাশ পাবে সেগুলোকে ছোট আলামত ও বড় আলামত এই পরিভাষাতে আখ্যায়িত করা হয়। অধিকাংশ ক্ষেত্রে ছোট আলামতগুলো কেয়ামত সংঘটিত হওয়ার অনেক আগেই প্রকাশিত হবে। এর মধ্যে কোন কোন আলামত ইতিমধ্যেই প্রকাশ পেয়ে নিঃশেষ হয়ে গেছে। কোন কোন আলামত নিঃশেষ হয়ে আবার পুনঃপ্রকাশ পাচ্ছে। কিছু আলামত প্রকাশিত হয়েছে এবং অব্যাহতভাবে প্রকাশিত হয়ে যাচ্ছে। আর কিছু আলামত এখনো প্রকাশ পায়নি। কিন্তু নবী সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়া সাল্লামের সংবাদ অনুযায়ী সেগুলো অচিরেই প্রকাশ পাবে।

কাফেররা বলে আমাদের উপর কেয়ামত আসবে না। বলুন কেন আসবে না? আমার পালনকর্তার শপথ-অবশ্যই আসবে। তিনি অদৃশ্য সম্পর্কে জ্ঞাত। নভোমন্ডলে ও ভূ-মন্ডলে তাঁর আগোচরে নয় অণু পরিমাণ কিছু, না তদপেক্ষা ক্ষুদ্র এবং না বৃহৎ-সমস্তই আছে সুস্পষ্ট কিতাবে।
