الحجامة من الأدوية النبوية التي مارسها النبي محمد عليه الصلاة والسلام وورد ذكرها في الطب النبوي، ففي الصحيحين أن الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم احتجم وأعطى الحجَّام أجره، كما أثنى على تلك الممارسة كما جاء في البخاري: (خيرُ ما تَداوَيتُمْ بِهِ الحِجَامَة)، وقد أحتجم الرسول في رأسه من وجع كان به كما احتجم في مواضع أخرى، واستخدام مصطلح "الحجامة النبوية" قد يقصد به البعض المواضع التي احتجم عليها الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم حسب ما كان يعتريه صلى الله عليه وسلم من عارض صحي رأى الرسول أن الحجامة تنفع له، كما يُشار للحجامة النبوية أحياناً باسم "الحجامة الإسلامية".

بين فقهاء الشريعة الإسلامية أنه تسري على الحجامة الأحكام العامة التي تسري على التطبيب، فإذا نتج عن الحجامة ضرر بالمحتجم فليس على الحجَّام ضمان إذا راعى أصول الحجامة ولم يتجاوز ما ينبغي، أما إن أخطأ أو تجاوز أو كان جاهلاً بالصنعة فإنه يضمن.

سئل ابن باز رحمه الله: هل يحتجم الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم في كل عام؟.. فأجاب: ثبت عنه صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه احتجم، أما كونه في كل عام ما أعلم شيئاً في هذا، لكن ثبت عنه أنه كان يحتجم عليه الصلاة والسلام.

الحجامة هي العلاج عن طريق مص وتسريب الدم عن طريق استعمال الكؤوس. ويكون بطريقتين : الحجامة الرطبة والحجامه الجافة. وهي طريقة طبية قديمة كانت تستخدم لعلاج كثير من الأمراض، لأن الناس كانوا يجهلون أسباب الأمراض، وكانت الوسائل العلاجية محدودة جداً.
رغم قدم ممارسة العلاج بالحجامة, فشلت العديد من الدراسات الحديثة في اثبات فعاليته. كما ان هناك بعض المخاطر الصحية التي يمكن ان تنتج عنه
