The Ivanchev spelling is the name given to the first official Bulgarian spelling, introduced by an ordinance of the Minister of National Education, Todor Ivanchov in 1899. It remains in force until the introduction of the Omarchev spelling in 1921, and in 1923, with some modifications, was restored in its basic positions and has been operating until the Communist Spelling Reform of 1945.
