شهر رمضان واحداً من أشهر السنة الاثنى عشر، وقد فرض الله سبحانه وتعالى على المسلمين الامتناع عن تناول الطعام والشراب من طلوع الفجر وحتى أذان المغرب من كلّ يومٍ منه وعمل الطاعات قدر المستطاع من أجل الحصول على الجوائز التي خص الله تعالى هذا الشهر بها، وصيام هذا الشهر ركنٌ من أركان الإسلام الخمسة.

لشهر رمضان قيمةٌ دينيةٌ كبيرةٌ، فهذا الشهر نزل به القرآن على سيدنا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، والقرآن الكريم دستور حياة البشرية عامةً والمسلمين خاصّةً فانتقل الناس من عبادة الأصنام إلى عبادة الله الواحد الأحد، ونزول القرآن كان بداية تكوين مجتمعٍ متحابٍ متعاون بعد أن كان مجتمعاً جاهلياً متقاتلاً
