ইলোরা ভারতের মহারাষ্ট্র রাজ্যের আওরঙ্গবাদ শহর থেকে ৩০ কিমি (১৮.৬ মাইল) দূরে অবস্থিত একটি প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক নিদর্শন। রাষ্ট্রকুট রাজবংশ এই নিদর্শনের স্থাপনাগুলো নির্মাণ করেছিল।

এখানে রয়েছে প্রচুর স্মৃতি সংবলিত গুহার সারি। এটি বিশ্ব ঐতিহ্যবাহী স্থান মর্যাদায় ভূষিত হয়েছে।ভারতের শিলা কেটে কোন কিছু তৈরি করার প্রাচীন প্রতিরূপ স্থাপত্যটি এখানে অনুসৃত হয়েছে। এখানে মোট ৩৪টি গুহা রয়েছে যেগুলো চরনন্দ্রী পাহাড়ের অভ্যন্তর থেকে খনন করে উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে।

গুহাগুলোতে হিন্দু, বৌদ্ধ এবং জৈন ধর্মের মন্দিরের স্বাক্ষর রয়েছে। ৫ম থেকে ১০ম শতাব্দীর মধ্যে এই ধর্মীয় স্থাপনাগুলো নির্মিত হয়েছিল। এখানে বৌদ্ধ ধর্মের ১২টি হিন্দু ধর্মের ১৭টি এবং জৈন ধর্মের ৫টি মন্দির রয়েছে। সব ধর্মের উপাসনালয়ের এই সহাবস্থান সে যুগের ভারতবর্ষে ধর্মীয় সম্প্রীতির নিদর্শন বহন করে।

ইলোরা ওয়েস্টার্ন ঘাটের সমতল ভূমি দখল করে গড়ে উঠেছে। বিভিন্ন প্রাচীন আগ্নেয়গিরি কর্মকান্ডের ফলে এই এলাকায় বিভিন্ন স্তরে গঠিত, যা ডেকান ফাদ (Deccan Traps )নামে পরিচিত।ক্রেটাচিয়াসের সময়, একটি আগ্নেয়গিরি ইলোরা দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিম দিকে গঠিত হয়েছিল।
