The Mahabharata is one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India, the other being the Ramayana.
Besides its epic narrative of the Kurukshetra War and the fates of the Kaurava and the Pandava princes, the Mahabharata contains philosophical and devotional material, such as a discussion of the four "goals of life" or purusharthas. Among the principal works and stories in the Mahabharata are the Bhagavad Gita, the story of Damayanti, an abbreviated version of the Ramayana, and the Rishyasringa, often considered as works in their own right.

महाभारत की रचना महर्षि कृष्णद्वैपायन वेदव्यास ने की है, लेकिन इसका लेखन भगवान श्रीगणेश ने किया है। इस ग्रंथ में चंद्रवंश का वर्णन है। महाभारत में न्याय, शिक्षा, चिकित्सा, ज्योतिष, युद्धनीति, योगशास्त्र, अर्थशास्त्र, वास्तुशास्त्र, शिल्पशास्त्र, कामशास्त्र, खगोलविद्या तथा धर्मशास्त्र का भी विस्तार से वर्णन किया गया हैं। यह महाकाव्य 'जय', 'भारत' और 'महाभारत' इन तीन नामों से प्रसिद्ध है। यहाँ हमने महाभारत से जुडी कहानियों को एक ही जगह संकलित करने का प्रयास किया है।
