অনেকেই ভাগ্যগণণায় বিশ্বাসী। যারা ভাগ্যগণণায় বিশ্বাসী তারা অনেক সময় জ্যোতিষী বা পথের ধারে টিয়া পাখির মাধ্যমেও ভাগ্য পরীক্ষা করে থাকে। কিন্তু এ বিষয়ে ইসলামে কড়া হুঁসিয়ারি উচ্চারণ করা হয়েছে। ইসলামের পরিভাষায় জ্যোতিষশাস্ত্র চর্চা শুধু হারামই নয় একজন জ্যোতিষবিদের কাছে যাওয়া এবং তার ভবিষ্যদ্বাণী শোনা, জ্যোতিষশাস্ত্রের উপর বই কেনা অথবা একজনের কোষ্ঠী যাচাই নিষেধ।

“যে গণকের কাছে যায় এবং কোন বিষয়ে জিজ্ঞাসা করে তার চল্লিশ দিন ও রাত্রির নামাজ গ্রহণযোগ্য হবে না।”

এমনকি জ্যোতিষের বক্তব্যের সত্যতায় সন্দিহান হওয়া সত্ত্বেও একজনের শুধু তার কাছে যাওয়া এবং প্রশ্ন করার শাস্তি এই হাদিসে বর্ণিত হয়েছে। যদি কেউ জ্যোতিষ-সংক্রান্ত তথ্যাদির সত্য মিথ্যায় সন্দিহান হয়,তবে সে আল্লাহর পাশাপাশি অন্যরাও হয়তো অদৃশ্য এবং ভবিষ্যৎ সম্বন্ধে জানে বলে সন্দেহ পোষণ করে। এটা এক ধরনের শিরক। কারণ আল্লাহ স্পষ্ট করে বলেছেনঃ

“অদৃশ্যের কুঞ্জি তাঁহারই নিকট রহিয়াছে, তিনি ব্যতীত কেহ জানে না।” [সূরা আন-আনআমঃ ৫৯]
