Читателю предлагаются апокрифические тексты из собрания, найденных в пустыне Наг-Хаммади.
Когда были записаны речения, сказать с точностью трудно, возможно, перед I иудейским восстанием, во всяком случае до создания евангельских рассказов, которые были записаны уже после разгрома Иерусалима. Первые записи, поскольку они фиксировали слова Иисуса, по всей вероятности, были анонимны. Как и цитаты из ветхозаветных книг, эти речения вставлялись в устные проповеди в разный контекст и в разных вариантах.

Третье произведение во II кодексе Наг-Хаммади - Евангелие от Филиппа (страницы 51.29-86.19). Как и Евангелие от Фомы, будучи переводом с греческого, оно написано на саидском диалекте коптского языка. По значимости оно не уступает предшествующему, хотя и во многом отличается от него. Как и то, оно возбуждает у исследователей множество вопросов мировоззренческих и собственно исторических, литературоведческих и языковых. Не менее чем первое оно заслуживает анализа эстетического.
Издатели разбили это произведение, подобно предыдущему, на ряд глав - изречений. Вначале эти изречения представляют собой более или менее обособленные единицы, связанные общими темами, образными и понятийными ассоциациями. К концу характер повествования меняется, относительно спокойный тон уступает место экстатическому подъему, объем изречений увеличивается, стирается их обособленность, все труднее становится отделять их друг от друга. Финал несет печать того страстного вдохновения, которое отличает многие гностические памятники.
Евангелие от Филиппа, как и Евангелие от Фомы, перекликается с каноническими текстами Нового завета, но число параллельных мест относительно невелико. Зато больший простор открывается для рассмотрения апокрифа в свете истории античной философии. Впрочем, и для исследования христианской догматики, обрядов, таинств, символики он служит первоклассным источником и в этом смысле содержит не меньше (если не больше) материала, чем Евангелие от Фомы.

Египетские христиане особо почитали Евангелие от Фомы и Евангелие от Филиппа, первоначально написанные по-гречески и позже переведенные на коптский.

Readers are invited to apocryphal texts from the collections found in the desert of Nag Hammadi.
When were recorded utterance, it is difficult to say with precision, perhaps before I Jewish revolt, in any case before the creation of the Gospel stories that were written after the destruction of Jerusalem. The first recordings as they recorded words of Jesus, in all probability, were anonymous. The third product in the II code of the Nag Hammadi - Gospel of Philip (page 51.29-86.19). Like the Gospel of Thomas, as a translation from the Greek, it is written on saidskom dialect of Coptic. Most important, it is not inferior to the preceding, though different in many ways from it. As well, it excites researchers have many questions of ideological and actual historical, literary and linguistic. No less than the first aesthetic analysis it deserves.
Publishers pitched this work, like the previous one, a number of chapters - utterances. Initially, these sayings are more or less distinct units linked by common themes, figurative and conceptual associations. By the end of the character of the story is changing relatively calm tone gives way to ecstatic recovery, sayings volume increases, erased them apart, it becomes increasingly difficult to separate them from each other. Finale bears the stamp of passionate inspiration, which features many Gnostic monuments.
The Gospel of Philip, as the Gospel of Thomas, in common with the canonical texts of the New Testament, but the number of parallel passages is relatively small. But more space open for consideration in the light of apocryphal stories of ancient philosophy. However, for the study of Christian doctrine, worship, sacraments, symbols, he is a first-class source, and in this sense contains no less (if not more) of the material than the Gospel of Thomas.
