Апокриф основан на тексте Второго Послания к Коринфянам (глава 12), который можно было истолковать таким образом, что апостол Павел сам побывал на небесах при жизни.
Памятник относится к концу IV в. по Р. X. Был очень популярен в средние века. Греческих рукописей сохранилось мало, но имеется ряд восточных версий (сирийская, коптская и эфиопская), а также латинская версия ("Видение Павла"), которая считается лучшей.
В описании мук ада автор следует Откровению Петра.
Греческая, латинская и сирийская версии обрываются на речи пророка Илии; коптская версия имеет длинное продолжение, вероятно, более позднего происхождения.

Apocrypha based on the text of the Second Epistle to the Corinthians (chapter 12), which could be interpreted in such a way that the Apostle Paul himself visited heaven during his lifetime.
Monument is the end of the IV. by Robert X. He was very popular in the Middle Ages. Greek manuscripts remained small, but there are several versions of the Eastern (Syrian, Coptic and Ethiopian), and the Latin version ("Vision of Paul"), which is considered the best.
In describing the torments of hell, the author follows the Revelation of Peter.
Greek, Latin and Syriac versions are cut off on the speech of the prophet Elijah; Coptic version has a long follow-up, probably more recent origin.
