হযরত আদম (আঃ) হলেন মানব জাতির পিতা । উনাকে আল্লাহতায়ালা প্রথম সৃষ্টি করেন । তারপর উনার সঙ্গী মা হওয়া (আঃ) কে সৃষ্টি করেন । কুরআন ও হাদীসে আদম (আঃ) এর সৃষ্টি সম্পর্কে আমরা অনেক কিছু জানতে পারি ।

আবু আশআরী (রাঃ) বলেন, রাসূলূল্লাহ (সাঃ) বলেছেনঃ আল্লাহ তায়ালা আদম (আঃ) কে পৃথিবী থেকে সংগৃহীত এক মুঠো মাটি দ্বারা সৃষ্টি করেন ।
তাই মাটি অনুপাতে আদম সন্তানদের কেউ হয় সাদা, কেউ হয় গৈারবর্ণ, কেউ হয় কালো, কেউ হয় মাঝামাঝি । ঈষৎ শাব্দিক পার্থক্যসহ তিনি ভিন্ন সূত্রে উক্ত হাদীসটি বর্ণনা করেছেন ।

সুদ্দী (রঃ) ইবন আব্বাস ও ইবন মাসউদ (রা) সহ কতিপয় সাহাবা সূত্রে বর্ণনা করেন যে, তারা বলেনঃ আল্লাহতায়ালা কিছু কাদামাটি নেয়ার জন্য জিব্রাঈল (আ) কে যমীনে প্রেরণ করেন । তিনি এসে মাটি নিতে চাইলে যমীন বলল, তুমি আমার অঙ্গ হানি করবে বা আমাতে খুত সৃষ্টি করবে ; এ ব্যাপারে তোমার নিকট থেকে আমি আল্লাহর কাছে পানাহ চাই । ফলে জীব্রাঈল (আঃ) মাটি না নিয়ে ফিরে গিয়ে বললেন, হে আমার রব ! যমীন তোমার আশ্রয় প্রার্থনা করায় আমি তাকে ছেড়ে এসেছি ।Hazrat Adam (AS) was the father of mankind.
