케어의 정신은 오직 말 못하는 동물들의 대변자’ 로서 그 본분을 잊지 않는다는 것에 있습니다. 인간의 이기를 위해 이용가치로 만 전락한 동물들, 심각한 학대와 방치로 인해 육체적, 정신적 고통을 겪고 있는 동물들을 두고 단체의 이익과 명예를 위해 고민하거나 저울질하지 않았습니다. 그래서 불합리한 사회의 벽, 또 동물권의 카르텔을 늘 경계하며 초심을 잃지 않고자 노력해 왔습니다. 그래서 케어의 운동이 조금은 외롭고 고단하더라도 우리의 그것과는 비교할 수도 없는 동물들의 고통을 가슴에 새기며 언제나 든든한 동물들의 조력자로 남을 것을 선택해 왔습니다.

2002년에 설립된 동물사랑실천협회가,
2015년부터는 동물권단체 케어로 새로워졌습니다.

위급한 동물 사건을 해결하기 위해 앞만 보고 달렸습니다.

깊은 산골, 대한민국 최남단, 화재로 인한 재난현장, 폭격으로 인한 전시 상황 등 마다 않고 참혹한 고통을 당하는 동물들 곁을 지켰습니다. 동물들을 구함으로만 그치지 않고, 실태를 개선하고 시민들의 인식과 법을 바꾸기 위한 노력을 병행했습니다. 학대의 범위를 확장하고 벌금의 상향조정과 징역형 신설, 동물보호감시제도, 지자체 동물보호소의 시설 기준 마련 및 직영화, 최근 강아지 공장의 허가제 요구까지 숨 가쁘게 달려오는 동안, 많은 분들이 힘을 합해 주셔서 시민들의 인식도 향상되고, 다양한 법과 제도들도 마련되었습니다. 하지만 아직도 부족합니다. 동물들이 처한 불합리한 상황들을 개선하기 위해 우리는 더 욕심을 내야만 합니다. 이 세상의 ‘정의’가 오직 인간의 전유물이 아니라 동물들에게까지 확장될 수 있도록 케어는 더 힘차게 달려갈 것입니다.

어떤 책에서, 이 우주 안에는 동물을 보호하는 존재들이 모여 있는 별이 따로 있다고 합니다.

그리고 그 별에 있는 존재들이 지구로 와서 동물들을 돕는 역할들을 하고 있다고요. 작은 생명에 마음이 가신다면 여러분은 그 별에서 오신 귀한 사명을 가진 분들입니다. 이 사명을 우리 모두 외면치 말고 힘을 합해 나아가길 바랍니다. 동물을 사랑하는 우리의 마음이 하나하나 모여 희망을 잃지 않고 노력한다면 분명히 큰 변화가 이루어질 것입니다. 케어가 동물들과 동물을 사랑하시는 여러분들의 곁에서 늘 함께 하겠습니다.
