例えば、絵本でしかゾウを見たことのない子どもが、動物園で初めてゾウを見て、その大きさに驚き、泣き出してしまうことは、よくあることです。

直にふれて感じる迫力、におい、声、大きさ、逆に小ささなど、ホンモノだけが持つパワーは、バーチャル体験をはるかに凌ぎます。そして、動物園の動物たちは、生きているからこそ日々変化し、何度訪ねてもまた違う驚きや感動に出会わせてくれます。動物園は私たちに発見の喜びを与えてくれる場所でもあるのです。
