Handovers during anesthesia are common and intraoperative handover protocols (combining educational sessions and posting of checklists in anesthetizing locations) could improve the quality of intraoperative transfer of care in anesthesia.
This electronic version of a checklist was developed as a collaborative project by the Departments of Anesthesia from the University of Toulouse, Hamilton and Toronto*. The application visually displays the most common items that should be transmitted during an intraoperative anesthesia handover in logical sequence (preop, intraop, postop and misc categories) and allows anesthesia providers to place checkmarks next to each item that has been transmitted. The log tracks the details of each checklist use.
