In scientific terminology a word “animal” means any organism, that feeds on other organisms, because it can`t synthesize nutrients from inorganic. And it has the ability to move actively. This definition corresponds to everything that eating and moving – from ciliates to giant octopuses.

Mammals have common features, the most important of which is – pulmonary breathing, constant body temperature, high organization of the nervous system, feeding calves by milk. There is also one interesting feature – the presence of hair, at least, on one of the life stages. As it happens, at a certain stage of development, even whales grow wool!

There are about 4000 species of animals in the world, and, unfortunately about 1200 of them are classified as rare and endangered.
