About ARGUS - 3D Sound Navigation Android App

ARGUS is a free Navigation App for pedestrians that uses 3D sounds (binaural sound) to guide you to your destination. ARGUS has been specially designed for the visually impaired, but can be used by all.

To begin using ARGUS you will need to create or select your desired route. Note that ARGUS only accepts route files in the GPX format.

To create or select a route ARGUS offers to options:

1. Design your own route using tools commonly available on the Interne such as http://www.openroutservice.org for example. Once you have create your route, download it to you device in GPX format and load it into the ARGUS App.

2. If you have already travelled, and recorded, the route once with ARGUS, you will find it available on your device.

3. Use the ARGUS web site to create a route: http://www.projectargus.net/uw/ . The web site allowed you to create routes for 5 cities: Madrid (Spain), San Sebastian (Spain), Soest (Germany) and Vienna (Austria). The ARGUS user web site also allows you to save and manage your routes and the interest points you have created. To use the website you need to use the credentials that are shown to you on the ARGUS App main page.

4. Use a GPX route file that a friend has given you. Save it to your device and load it in the ARGUS App.
This version of ARGUS included the Google automatic route calculation engine by default. Given that the engine is for generic applications it may give you suggestions that are not optimal for the user during the route. Therefore precaution should be shown when using ARGUS with routes obtained in this way.

If you require a more advanced route generation method please contact us at [email protected].
Once you have begun your route, ARGUS uses GPS data and your device’s compass in order to know your position and direction and to guide you through your route.

If you wish to use and external GPS receiver with higher precision you may contact [email protected]. Two paid versions of the ARGUS App exist (available soon) that allow connection to external GPS receivers.

IMPORTANT: ARGUS is a navigation support tool and is not intended to substitute or replace existing navigation or walking aids (cane, guide dog, etc.). ARGUS is not capable of detecting objects or obstacles and the precision of the route is dependent on the precision of your device’s GPS receiver and GPS coverage during the route. Finally, ARGUS also uses your device compass function to determine your direction and orientation so therefore it is important that you hold your device in your hand and in front of you throughout the route. The use of open headphones is recommended, preferably based on bone conduction (www.aftershokz.com/)

DISCLAIMER: The developers of the ARGUS App accept no responsibility or liability for personal or material damages arising from the use of ARGUS by the user or material or personal damages caused to third parties arising from the use of ARGUS.
