Visualization of complex neuroimaging data such as functional connectivity, tractography, functional imaging is a challenge. Recombining such data produces an even more complex problem.
Many different visualization solutions have been proposed. Margulies et al (2013), for example, describe two-dimensional as well as three-dimensional neuroimaging visualization methods for tractography and functional connectivity data. Rojas and colleagues (Rojas, 2011), described a stereoscopic-related method to view neuroradiological 3-D images.
An Augmented Reality (AR) system generates a composite view for the user that is the combination of a real scene viewed by the user and a virtual scene generated by the computer that augments (or supplements) the scene with additional information (e.g. sound, video, graphics, etc.).
Here we describe an application for Android to visualize the seven standard functional connectivity networks (Yeo et al., 2011), and an Augmented Reality application that shows the Default Mode Network.
Gonzalo Rojas, Jorge Fuentes, Marcelo Gálvez, Daniel Margulies, “Augmented Reality and Intrinsic Functional Connectivity Visualization Application: ARIBraiN, iBraiN”, 20th Annual Meeting of the Organization for Human Brain Mapping, Hamburg, Germany, June 2014.
