What's New

The AD-Monitor app is nearing production. It now requires your email to identify your recordings anonymously in the cloud database. You will need your instrument installed and hooked up to your catheter to get the data to show.

BlueMaestro and Xiaomi Mijia Bluetooth Temperature Humidity Sensors are active. these plot on a 0-100 scale on the right.

The algorithm to recognize when a warning should be issued is still being developed and your data will help with this.

Good Luck.

About Autonomic Dysreflexia Android App

About this App for Spinal Cord Injury people.
This is a step in the preparation of this app. It needs a $50 instrument in reality. This app monitors a working prototype of this instrument in my workshop. We are seeking comment, parameters and direction.
The Problem.
The kidneys produce urine at a more or less steady rate. The urine is stored in the bladder until it is expelled. If the outflow is blocked and the bladder gets fuller and fuller, the patient suffers from Autonomic Dysreflexia, Headaches, sweating, High blood pressure and low pulse. The symptoms are so severe that it is often the case that the patient is taken to the Emergency room. The ‘cure’ is to unblock the outflow!
This condition happens in Spinal Cord Injury patients when their catheter gets a kink, falls out through the sphincter or fills with gunk from a bladder infection. It is very serious, but rare. A person in a wheelchair with no bladder sensation can expect to have one incident in his lifetime with a probability of about 0.85.
The app and its associated instrument monitor the urine bag to check that it is increasing in weight all the time. If this weight increase stops there will be a warning to the carer's Android phone when the situation is noticed, after about 20 minutes.

The Load Cell and Raspberry Pi zero are on the wheelchair. They update a database in the Cloud every minute or so. The Android phone, perhaps nearby, perhaps distant can interrogate the database and draw a trace of the weight of the urine bag. This weight normally increases at about 1g per minute, a persistent steady weight indicates perhaps a blockage or kink in the catheter or that it has slipped out of the sphincter.
