Road traffic injuries are the eighth leading cause of death globally, and the leading cause of death for young people. Economically disadvantaged families are hardest hit by both direct medical costs and indirect costs such as lost wages that result from these injuries. Indeed, road traffic injuries are estimated to cost low- and middle-income countries, which are motorizing rapidly between 1–2 % of their gross national product, estimated at over US$ 100 billion a year. More than a million people die each year on the world’s roads, and the cost of dealing with the consequences of these road traffic crashes runs to billions of dollars.
"In 2010, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 64/2551, which proclaimed a Decade of Action for Road Safety. The goal of the Decade (2011–2020) is to stabilize and reduce the increasing trend in road traffic fatalities, saving an estimated 5 million lives over the period.”
Addressing the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, AVOID ACCIDENT a not for profit and nongovernmental organization building the support of broad-based collaboration, including governmental and public health bodies, motoring organizations, road safety NGOs and international agencies, is working for the concerns of road safety and injury prevention.
