श्रीमद्भगवद्‌गीता – संक्षिप्त परिचय
श्रीमद्भगवद्‌गीता संसार का प्रथम और समग्र मनस शास्त्र है। भगवान श्रीकृष्ण द्वारा कुरुक्षेत्र की समरभूमि में उपदेशित इस शास्त्र में कुल अध्यायों की संख्या अट्ठारह है तथा कुल श्लोकों की संख्या लगभग सात सौ है। गीता का उल्लेख महाभारत के शांति पर्व में मिलता है। इसके संकलनकर्ता महर्षि वेदव्यास हैं।
क्यों कही गयी गीता?
जब रणक्षेत्र में अपने बंधु-बांधवों को अपने सामने देख गांडीवधारी अर्जुन शोकग्रस्त होकर नैराश्य की चरम सीमा पर पहुंच जाते हैं तब सर्वेश्वर भगवान श्रीकृष्ण उन्हें पुनः कर्तव्ययुत करने हेतु गीता दर्शन का साक्षात्कार करवाते हैं। गीता में मनुष्य़ की सभी समस्याओं का समाधान मिल जाता है क्योंकि इसका सारभूत तत्व ही कर्ता विहीन कर्म है। गीता का आरंभ धर्म से तथा अंत कर्म से होता है। गीता मनुष्य को प्रेरणा देती है। मनुष्य का कर्तव्य क्या है? इसी का बोध करवाना गीता का लक्ष्य है।

गीता का उपदेश अत्यन्त पुरातन योग है। गीता की गणना विश्व के महानतम ग्रंथों में की जाती है। आदि शंकराचार्य से लेकर विनोबा भावे जैसे महान तपस्वी साधकों ने गीता के महत्व को बताया है। इसी गीता के आधार पर महात्मा गांधी ने अनासक्ति योग का प्रतिपादन किया।
