Train your reaction time and block start ability with the Great Lakes Athletics Block Start Trainer!

Choose from either the Rapid Fire drill or the On Your Marks drill. In Rapid Fire mode, you are given multiple attempts to hone your reaction time. Feeling fast? Now it's time to go through full race commands with a real random gun shot in the On Your Marks drill! Don't try to guess the gun, though. False starts are real and if you are wearing a workout armband your reaction time is measured. React faster than 0.1 seconds and you've just false started, just like in the pros! Great Lakes Athletics Block Start Trainer also keeps track of your best reaction and the date it was set.

Why is my reaction time not as fast as the pros?

When a professional's reaction time is measured, it is by very precise pressure sensors in the blocks themselves. Great Lakes Block Start Trainer makes use of the accelerometer in your phone to judge when you have started based off of lead arm motion, but makes sure to not give a false reading by raising into the "Set" position. Because of this discrepancy, your reaction times may be slightly slower than what the professional's are.

Why train reaction?

Races are won and lost by milliseconds. Not only is reaction time trainable, but by always going through the full commands you are better able to train the motor set used during a race.

Why does my phone report a slower reaction than my teammates phone?

Due to the different accelerometer hardware and the characteristics of different phones, reaction time data may differ between phones. However, training with the same phone will still provide consistent data and results.
