Botulism is a serious illness which spreads through food, contaminated soil, or through an open wound contaminated with toxins produced by bacteria called Clostridium botulinum.
In this app we have compiled information on causes types symptoms treatment and prevention of Botulism.
There are three main types of botulism:-
• Wound botulism
• Food borne botulism
• Infant botulism
Signs of food borne and wound botulism include:
* Facial weakness on both sides of the face
* Nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps (in food borne botulism)
* Blurred vision
* Difficulty in swallowing or speaking
* Drooping eyelids
* Breathing problems
Whereas signs of infant botulism could be:-
* Constipation
* Drooping eyelids
* Loss of muscle tone
* Difficulty feeding
* Tiredness
* Irritability
* Weak cry etc
Avoiding eating stale, canned and preserved, fermented foods, cleaning wounds with antiseptic liquids etc may help you prevent botulism.
