The Camamu municipality located in the Dende Coast, southern coast of Bahia, on the banks of the BA-001 highway.
Camamu originates from a village tupiniquins which in 1561 was transformed into a parish, after the establishment of a mission of the Jesuits. It was called the Village of Our Lady of the Assumption of Macamamu.
