The application is an easy-to-use capacitor code calculator for calculating the capacitance of a capacitor.
Capacitor
A capacitor is a component in electrical circuits that stores electrical energy in an electric field. A capacitor is made of two close conductors that are separated by dielectric material. The capacitance of a capacitor is the amount of electrical energy that is stored in the capacitor at a voltage of one Volt. The capacitance is measured in units of Farad (F).
Code
The codes on capacitors identify the capacitance of a capacitor. The code exists of one, two, or three digits. If the capacitor code consists of only one or two digits, the capacitance of the capacitor is simply the value in picofarads. In the following, a few examples are shown.
5 = 5 pF
47 = 47 pF
68 = 68 pF
The most common number of digits on capacitors is three. In this case, the first two numbers indicate the capacitance value in picofarads, where the third digit specifies the multiplication factor. The multiplication factor is based on the power of ten. In the following, a few examples are shown.
470 = 47 pF
471 = 470 pF
472 = 4.7 nF
475 = 4.7 μF
