In a modern car audio system, the primary device that serves as a source of audio signals in a common system is called a car head unit or tape, and mounted in the center of the dashboard between the driver and passenger. The head unit itself is usually a multifunctional device that includes some functions inside. The most common components are radio receivers / tuners with AM and FM bands, and small-scale amplifiers to facilitate audio signals to the speaker unit. Other components that may include such as cassette tape media devices, CD players, DVD players, HD Radio, Satellite Radio, USB flash memory, and even portable hard drives are commonly used in computer systems. Many head units also have DSP components, and equalizer functions such as bass and treble controls or other support control features such as parking sensor cameras, navigation systems etc.
Car stereos generally do not follow the current trend of audio technology. Cassette decks can still be found in cars until the end of 2008, and even in the year 2010 CD players are still a standard part of most car stereo systems, although non-car audio products like the Walkman have long disappeared from the market. Since the early 2000s the car audio system has been adapted to consumer needs for MP3 player and smartphone connection features, by adding a USB jack and Bluetooth Audio Stream module, but consumer data still shows that a large number of users are still listening to CDs. Here we show some types of audio system on the car
