CarbonFit is a smart carbon footprint estimator that can quickly calculate your carbon footprint arising from transportation and household sources. Through a set of simple questions like your travel habits, your location, CarbonFit can estimate your carbon footprint. CarbonFit makes use of the passenger vehicle database provided by the EPA and your local weather patterns provided by the NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration) in its estimation.
Not only that, CarbonFit gives you practical tools to reduce your carbon footprint and calculates the energy cost savings from those actions. CarbonFit uses national average energy costs to calculate your personalized savings while you set goals to reduce your carbon footprint. Some of the great features it provides are
1. CarbonFit Driving Coach: CarbonFit also provides a unique feature called Driving Coach that can analyze your driving patterns and provide recommendations that will improve your vehicle's fuel economy. It also suggests the technologies that you should keep in mind when you buy a new car. It can analyze key statistics of the routes you take (say to work) and gives you recommendations on whether it is a fuel efficient route.
2. Buying a New/Used Car: If you are planning to buy a new or a used car, CarbonFit can help you take the right decision that leads to a reduced carbon footprint. You can easily calculate your fuel cost savings and carbon footprint reduction by an up-to-date database of passenger vehicles sold in the United States. It can also predict your expected fuel economy for a new car that you plan to buy (based on your current vehicle driving pattern).
3. Alt->Fly: CarbonFit also provides another tool called Alt->Fly that lets you find savings from using a road based transportation mode instead of flying. Air travel is also a large source of green-house gas generation. CarbonFit can calculate the carbon footprint savings if you substituted air travel with road travel (e.g., car, bus, Amtrak etc).
4. Home Energy: Savings from changing your home Thermostat settings
The carbon footprint calculated by CarbonFit has been validated using widely accepted Carbon Footprint calculators like the EPA Carbon Footprint calculator and CoolClimate Calculator.
