Depending on the action you go to do, you could save the location of the vehicle with the GPS, you could program an alarm to remember a time to pick up your vehicle or you could save some data to know where is your place of the car park.
Once stored, you could check these data and delete them when you want.

About the GPS: You have put the GPS ON, only to use the maps.
When the location is saved, you can switch off the GPS.
To draw the path from your position to the vehicle location, you will need switch on the GPS.
