What is ‘Design Island’?
Design Island helps you navigate the design delights of Ireland. It’s brimming with worthwhile destinations, some on well-trodden paths and others down lesser-known trails. We asked a panel of experts from the design community to nominate their top locations around the country to share the best of design in Ireland, including some well-kept secrets.
To help you map your route more easily, we’ve divided these design destinations into five categories:
Eat & Drink
Stop for Sunday lunch in Ireland’s oldest coaching inn or discover where local Dublin designers go to get their Irish craft beer fix.
Stay
From contemporary city chic to traditional country estate, find out where those in the Irish design community like to lay their hat when away from home.

Design Island is an app produced by Irish Design 2015 (ID2015), in collaboration with IBM, that helps users navigate the design delights of Ireland. ID2015 asked a panel of 40 experts from the design community to nominate their top design destinations around the country to share the best of design in the country, including some well-kept secrets.
Some well-known contributors on the app include fashion journalist Deirdre McQuillan, interior architect and President of the IDI, Marc O’Riain, designers Superfolk, and broadcaster Dylan Haskins. What the app really offers people is an opportunity to see the island of Ireland through the eyes of design experts.

Who is behind the app?
This app, Design Island, has been developed as part of Irish Design 2015 (ID2015), in partnership with IBM. All content has been generated from personal recommendations made by selected designers and journalists. ID2015 would like to thank all contributors for their valuable input to the application.
What is Irish Design 2015 (ID2015)?
ID2015 is a year-long programme exploring, promoting and celebrating Irish design and designers through events and activities on the island of Ireland and around the world. ID2015 is being convened by the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland, in collaboration with partner organisations on behalf of the Department of Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Enterprise Ireland.
