Many engineers, inspectors, building architects and similar professions define tall buildings as buildings that are at least 75 feet (23 m) tall.

High-rise structures have design challenges for structural and geotechnical development, especially when located in seismic or clay areas having geotechnical risk factors such as high pressure or mud soils. Another not less great challenge is how firefighters work during emergencies on high structures. New and old building designs, building systems such as building stand pipe systems, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems, fire sprinklers and other things such as ladder and elevator evacuations experience such problems.
