It has been a little over a decade since the introduction of Big Chief. Having brought a fresh, new sound to the forefront of Hip-Hop music with notable singles such as “When You Gon Let Me?”. Big Chief is now preparing to birth a new generation of hip-hop under his new alias “DON CHIEF”. Considered the Boss of Dallas, Texas, DON CHIEF is bringing structure back to the industry.
Many know his story; born and raised in the rough West Dallas Rupert Circle housing projects, DON CHIEF was surrounded by drugs, gang violence and poverty. At the young age of eight, CHIEF decided to channel his energy and turn his environment into the subject of his songs. DON CHIEF’s first performance took place in elementary school and after being well received by his peers, his hunger to perfect his craft intensified. At fifteen, CHIEF pressed his first record entitled “Exotic Games” which allowed him to collaborate with other local MC’s and later become a member of the Stoney Crooks Clique. CHIEF was beginning to experience limited success but he quickly encountered serious adversity when he approached rap as a career.
Hate is real in the industry and, often, DON CHIEF found himself in the middle of it. Ignoring the substance of his lyrics, his story telling ability and his catchy hooks, many critics disliked CHIEF’s distinct voice and relaxed cadence. Due to the fact that Houston was already a staple of Southern music, several industry executives overlooked DON CHIEF simply because he was from Dallas. This hate was only their mistake because CHIEF did not allow these roadblocks and obstacles to deter him from his goals and the streets are forever grateful.
Since first entering the rap game, DON CHIEF has produced a series of mixtapes titled the “Eat Greedy Volumes”. There are a total of 16 Eat Greedy Volumes to date. DON CHIEF has successfully been able to use his adversity in his favor by bringing the southern sounds together to create an undeniably fresh flavor to the hip-hop community. The byproduct of DON CHIEF refusing to have his destiny denied was the engineering of a movement that has not only become the theme of his career but also the theme of his life… the EAT GREEDY Movement.
As founder of the EAT GREEDY movement, DON CHIEF’s buzz and grind precede him. His loyal constituents are what keep him going. His reputation for the creation of instant street classics such as “When U Gone Let Me?”, “Used To It”, and “My Swagg” has created strong street anticipation for his next albums. This anticipation now spans far outside of the DFW area into the under belly of cities like Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Miami, Atlanta, Memphis, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Indianapolis, Cleveland, St. Louis, Shreveport, Philadelphia and New York to name a few.
CHIEF’s persistence has not gone unnoticed by those in the national music community. He has been co-signed by most that become familiar with his music and his grind, converting them all into EAT GREEDY Boys and Girls. Along the way; respectable recognition as a force to be reckoned with has come from artists, DJ’s, producers and program directors like Jim Jones, Lil Boosie, DJ Michael “5000” Watts, DJ Smallz, DJ Greg Street, DJ Drop, DJ Bay Bay, DJ Hollywood, TJ of TJ’s DJ’s, Tony Neal of The Core DJ’s, The J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, and Skip Cheatham; to industry magazines like The Fader (Issue #56), Ozone Magazine (Patiently Waiting), and Connect Magazine (Cover Story). With the music from his EAT GREEDY Volumes, DON CHIEF has garnered attention from the likes of Cash Money, Atlantic, Koch, Def Jam, Universal, E1, and other major labels in the industry. Most importantly, DON CHIEF is endorsed by the streets that made him. With his EAT GREEDY team behind him, the movement has progressed far beyond being just a slogan, and has become a way of life.
“One of the hottest, up and coming, hood figures in the region is West Dallas’ DON CHIEF.”
