v 1.6.2
- Workaround AutoLocation bug by restarting the plugin when spurious triggers occur
- Attempt to avoid AutoLocation bug by reducing the feature set used (without degrading DriveFi's functionality)
Automatically disable wifi and/or auto-sync while driving or riding a bike; then enable them again when you stop!
Designed by a Republic Wireless* member, for Republic Wireless members!
DriveFi utilizes Google's new Activity Recognition API to determine when you are driving/biking and uses this information to automatically control wifi and/or sync features of your phone.
[NOTE: DriveFi must be installed on internal storage; Forcing DriveFi to the sdcard may cause it to not function properly]
=======================================================
Republic Wireless members (and VoIP users in general) tend to leave Wifi enabled on our phones. When driving through town we pass many open wifi hotspots. If your phone automatically connects to open hotspots or you have connected to these hotspots before, your phone will attempt to connect to these as you drive by.
Drive-By Wifi connections are annoying!
- They waste battery power by negotiating a connection and then trying to retain it while you drive further away
- They break your telephony flow by fooling your phone into temporarily thinking you've got access to VoIP via Wifi
- Manual efforts to avoid this often result in a disabled wifi radio for prolonged periods of time, even after you get home
Avoid the hassle, let DriveFi manage your Wifi connection for you!
Never worry about turning off your wifi manually as you start to drive, and never worry about turning it back on again when you stop.
Disabling auto-sync while driving (optional) provides further power/performance improvements: If you don't need emails, etc while driving, why waste the battery power on those updates? Let DriveFi disable auto-sync until you get out of the car where you have a greater possibility to sync via wifi (faster, more efficient). Keep your phone's resources free for more pressing apps while driving, like your navigation software!
More features are coming - I'm adding to the feature list based on the feedback you all provide; Disabling auto-sync was added as a common feature request, let me know what YOU want your phone to do when you start/stop driving!
DriveFi is lightweight and battery friendly. Using Google's Activity Recognition API, DriveFi uses a power-efficient system to determine whether or not you are driving (or riding a bicycle). DriveFi polls the Google API once every 30 seconds (future versions will enable you to control the polling frequency) and otherwise remains IDLE with a low memory footprint.
=======================================================
This app is a Tasker App Factory product and utilizes a non-free Tasker Plugin to access the Activity Recognition API. I do NOT benefit/profit from sales of the non-free plugin. Sorry about that, I hope to migrate to a free plugin in the future.
