About the Easymed
This project is created under Student Innovation Global Health Technology (SIGHT), an interdisciplinary platform at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) that is passionate about students’ innovation in creating tangible healthcare solutions for under privileged areas around the world.
EasyMed will be used by the medical team from One2One Charitable Trust, SIGHT’s collaborative partner, who provides weekly mobile clinic services to slums in needy areas in Phnom Penh Cambodia. The app integrates three medical clinic stations called Triage where nurses mainly collect patients’ identity, medical data, and symptoms, followed by Consultation where doctors check, diagnose, and assign medicine to patients, and lastly Pharmacy where medication dose as assigned by the doctor is calculated, and distributed to the patient.
Besides the app, we create an offline intranet (internet-free network through the use of pre-configured Raspberry Pi and Wifi router) that allow the medical team to update and retrieve patients’ medical record during their visit to the slum area even without internet connection. Raspberry Pi is a credit card-sized, single board computer that runs on low power consumption, making it the perfect choice for practical usage in Cambodia. The use of EasyMed app also increases medical team’s mobility in updating and retrieving medical records as they commute from one slum to another. Once the medical team is back in their office, our team creates a cloud database hosted by a platform called Heroku to which the mobile app can sync to, in order to consolidate the newly updated patient medical record into existing database.
This version of Easymed Android App comes with one universal variant which will work on all the Android devices.
