EBCF was created in 2009 by the Barrionuevo's and Valdenor Costa' families to: (I) conserve native Brazilian rainforests; (II) protect biodiversity; (III) promote sustainable development for traditional and riverine communities; (IV) reduce CO2 emissions. In 2010, EBCF acquired 12 private properties with a total area of approximately 200 million m2 in the Amazon Rainforest with the sole purpose of transforming them into Private Reserves for Sustainable Development (RPDS. In 2012, EBCF underwent an important corporate transformation, announcing its association with TERTIUM, a company formed by Pattac and Tucumann, partners of Cataratas do Iguaçú S/A. Cataratas do Iguaçú, in turn, has been responsible since 1999 for the implementation, operation, administration, maintenance and economic gains of areas granted by the Brazilian Environmental and Renewable Resources Institute - Ibama in one of Brazil’s largest Atlantic Rainforest protection units, the Iguassu National Park, as well as the Fernando de Noronha National Marine Park and, more recently, Tijuca National Park, responsible for the management of the Christ the Redeemer monument.
