Take a virtual tour of Edinburgh Anatomical Museum.
The Edinburgh Anatomical Museum was built with a glazed roof, which allowed natural light to illuminate the objects from above. There are around 800 objects currently on display in the museum, although a recent inventory project, lists the total number of objects and specimens in the entire collection as nearer 12,000. Due to the lack of environmental control in this Victorian building, many of the collections that are more susceptible to light or heat damage are not on open display. While collections of this size are relatively normal in Museums of Pathology, it is unusual for an Anatomical collection, which is historically handled by both staff and students, to survive on this scale.
