It is quite common and in fact, traditional in Pakistan for both men and women to wear Salwar kameez but there is a slight difference between the two types and are highlighted here.

Shalwar kameez for men consists of three parts, the shalwar, kameez and the chaddar. The difference between the men and women shalwar kameez lies in the fabrics with which they are made and the collar portion. Usually, men prefer to wear shalwar with chaddar and are very popular among the people of Punjab and sindh provinces.

The shalwar which is the bottom portion is wide and generally drawstring is used as belt. The upper portion is a separate piece of clothing called the kameez which is a long shirt. The shalwar is of ankle length while the kameez is up to the knees. As in the case of women Salwar kameez, the kameez for men does not contain any embellishment but embroidery work may be, at times, done on the chest part of the kameez. Usually, both the shalwar and kameez are made from the same fabric, although, kameez can be made from a different fabric, too.

Men prefer to wear shalwar made of cotton. When the kameez is designed without a collar for men, it is known as kurta and there are exquisite designs of kurtas to cater to the needs and taste of contemporary style. The traditional type of kurta is the one which is transparent without a collar and is popular even today, among some men. Shalwar kameez is a blend of modesty with the fashion and is well suited to be presented as a gift for someone you care.
