About Empathic Diary App (Prototype) Android App

Many diary apps already exist for Android. They mostly focus on privacy and adding emoticons to state your emotions.


Empathic Diary App is a new kind of Diary. With real-time multimodal emotion measurements, this application captures your affective states and gives you feedback on it.

The emotions are captured continuously from images of the user taken with the front camera and from the text provided by the user. Also the images taken by the user itself are analyzed. The app provides an emotion fusion algorithm to merge the emotion measurements to estimate the overall affective state of the user during the session.

Disclaimer :

This application is a prototype, thus it is not complete and may not work properly on every device. For its first version it is optimized for 10'' Tablet.


The modules :

• Emotion from face : this module analyses your face locally. No images are saved, only metrics that were computed to display the graphics.

• Emotion from photo : this module analyses the photos locally. The images and metrics are stored on your device.

• Emotion from text : this module uses the SATI API developed by Loria (http://talc2.loria.fr/empathic/). It sends entered text and retrieves the computed emotion.

• Emotion fusion : this module uses the previously computed metrics and fuses them to a Noldus server that will send back the main emotion.
