Communication is the basic ability
that sets us apart from all other
living creatures, it makes us human. Yet,
there’s a group of people with hearing
and speech impairments that find
it very difficult to engage in most common
everyday activities. It may be hard
to imagine for us, but anything – from
talking to a salesperson in the store,
from studying at school or university,
working with colleagues and clients on
the job, socializing with other people –
any activity that happens owing
to communication becomes difficult
and problematic if you can not simply
voice your thoughts and get a response
for them. People feel isolated and
the world is simply silent to them.
More than 40 million people suffer
from hearing and speech impairments
around the world. This huge number
is easily comparable to a mediumsized
country, such as Argentina, and it
is growing larger every day. Even with
current development of technology
there are a lot of devices that could
help these people effectively communicate
with the rest of the world, to help
them lead a good life, become productive
members of society and achieve
their full potential. It has to be changed.
